When citizens know about programs that work in other communities, they can help bring them to their own communities. One example is the Secret Safe Place For Newborns program.

The Secret Safe Place for Newborns program protects newborns by allowing new mothers in crisis who might otherwise abandon their child to bring their unharmed newborn child to hospital workers at designated locations (most often hospital emergency rooms). The newborn is settled with a foster family after receiving newborn health care. The mother receives medical care, if needed, and counseling, if desired. She may reclaim her child within thirty days. The program started in Mobile and has spread to communities throughout the United States as citizens learned about the hundreds of babies nationwide whose lives were saved by this program.
