2005 Alabama Statistics: 188,550 serious crimes a year 331 homicides 348 officers assaulted 19,101 violent crimes 169,064 property crimes: over $213 million stolen

Every Day in Alabama (based on 2005 averages): almost every day, a law enforcement officer is assaulted more than 4 rapes are reported every day almost 16 robberies are reported every day more than 31 assaults are reported every day more than 34 motor vehicles reported stolen every day more than 113 burglaries are reported every day 130 drug or alcohol arrests are made every day more than 315 larcenies reported every day 463 property cromes are reported every day

Almost all these crimes took place in local communities where the victims lived, worked or went to school.
